APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH
NotableKnown as "35AA"
The reference-grade 35 — apochromatic correction and a close-focus capability no M lens had before.
After the 90, 75, and 50mm APO-Summicrons, Leica completed the set at the reportage focal length. The "35AA" (the community shorthand mirrors the 50mm's "50AA") is apochromatically corrected to erase color fringing entirely and resolves 60-megapixel sensors with ease.
Its quiet revolution is the focus throw: 0.3 m minimum focus, breaking the M system's traditional 0.7 m rangefinder-coupling limit — below 0.7 m you focus by live view or EVF. For collectors and working shooters alike it instantly became the technical benchmark 35, the clinical counterpart to the vintage-hearted Steel Rim and its Classic Line reissue.
