Leica SL3
Announced in March 2024, the Leica SL3 is the current flagship of the SL mirrorless line. Its 60MP BSI CMOS sensor is the same architecture found in the M11 and Q3, and for the first time in the SL series it includes phase-detect autofocus — a significant practical improvement over the contrast-detect-only system in the SL2. Phase-detect AF means the camera can track subjects reliably, making it genuinely competitive with professional mirrorless bodies from Sony and Canon for action, portraits, and any situation where the subject moves.
For Leica customers: the SL system uses the L-mount, which is shared with Panasonic and Sigma through the L-Mount Alliance. This means SL3 shooters can use native SL lenses, Panasonic S lenses, Sigma Art lenses, and any M-mount or R-mount glass via adapter. The SL3 makes the case that Leica can compete on technical merit — 60MP, phase-detect AF, weather sealing — while maintaining the minimalist design and build quality the brand is known for.
