The intimate counterpart to Guerrillero Heroico, and a masterclass in unobtrusive rangefinder portraiture.

In 1963, Magnum's René Burri photographed Che Guevara in his Havana office during a heated interview for Look magazine. Burri worked several Leica M bodies through the session; the frame of Guevara leaning back, cigar clenched, eyes narrowed mid-argument, became the "other" iconic Che — the human counterpoint to Korda's heroic gaze.
Burri liked to note that Guevara never once looked at him in two hours — the photographer as furniture, the rangefinder quiet enough to keep it that way. Copyrighted (Magnum), linked not reproduced.
